BLISS: When did you decide you wanted to become a model?
A: A few years ago, friends told me I should do it. I never really pictured myself as “model material.”
B: What was your first shoot like and who was the photographer?
A: My first shoot was done by Scott Barnes in Indianapolis. I was nervous, but I had been speaking to Scott for a few weeks, which helped me to be comfortable and get to know him before the shoot.
B: How do you prepare for a photo shoot?
A: I try to eat extra carefully and workout of course. I try to cut water a day or two before to get the body looking as “ripped” as possible. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I’m still trying to figure out how my body reacts to certain things and trying to find the right balance.
B: What would you say is your best feature?
A: I've always liked my eyes. Others seem to think I have a nice ass.
B: What’s the best lesson you've learned as a model?
A: Patience. Patience with my body and getting it how I want it. Patience during a shoot; not rushing poses, letting the process happen. Also, shoots can take a while, so working on staying in the moment and not losing focus.
B: What was your favorite shoot and what made it so?
A: I've had great experiences at all of my shoots. Whether that’s seeing an image I’m in love with, or actually befriending photographers. I've worked with a few now that I consider good friends who I trust completely. But my favorite location I've shot in was a friend’s pool. Those are still some of my favorite images and it was summer and I felt good about myself and just had fun with it.
B: What was your worst or most difficult shoot and what made it so?
A: I haven’t really had a specific shoot that was a bad experience. There have been a couple times I had to really work on staying focused and not get impatient because images weren't working or I was feeling my body didn't look its best.
B: Would you do full frontal nudity? Why or why not?
A: Yes, I would. I just haven’t felt it’s the right time yet. I envision myself waking up one day and saying, “Ok, I’m ready. Let’s do it.”
B: Are there any male models in your genre whose work you admire?
A: Benjamin Godfrey and Todd Sanfield come to mind. Both are gorgeous and make it seem so effortless. Plus, I see them as being somewhat fearless in their shoots. I admire that and am working on being more open to ideas.
B: What is it like working with KJ Heath?
A: Fantastic. He’s someone I trust completely. Before our first shoot he and I spoke a lot and I felt even though it was over email, I got to know him. So when it came time to shoot, I wasn’t as nervous and we got some great images. I've worked with him a few times now and each time, it gets better. Plus, he takes me out for tacos afterward.
